Dr. Ashis K Sen is a Professor in the Dept of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. He was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Southampton, UK (2008-2010), visiting faculty at TU Darmstadt (2012) and OIST Japan (2017). He received his BE degree from NIT Rourkela, ME degree from IISc Bangalore and PhD degree from USC-Columbia in Mechanical Engineering.
Dr. Sen has made significant original contributions to research in micro/nanofluidics. Particularly, he has made notable contributions to the field of droplet microfluidics and acoustofluidics in terms of both fundamental physics as well as technology development. He has published over 130 research articles in various prestigious international journals. He has also published several conference proceedings, 8 books/book chapters, filed 6 patents, and supervised 25 Ph.D./MS scholars. He has delivered several keynote/invited talks at various prestigious international conferences/workshopws.
He is the recipient of several prestigious awards/fellowships: Swarna Jayanti Fellowship 2017-18, IITM Institute Research and Development Award (IRDA) - Mid-career level 2021, Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) Awards 2020, NASI-Scopus Young Scientist Award 2019, IITM IRDA - Early-career level 2017, IITM Young Faculty Recognition Award (YFRA) 2017 and Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) Young Engineer Award 2013, Institution of Engineers India (IEI) Young Engineer Award 2013, and the USC Outstanding Graduate Student Award, 2007.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He has served as an elected Board Member of the International Acoustofluidics Society (2021-2024) and is a Life member of the Indian Society of Heat and Mass Transfer, Indian Society of Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power, and Indian Society of Smart Materials and Structures.
