Dr. Ashis Kumar Sen is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. Before joining IIT Madras, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Southampton, UK (2008-2010).
He received his BE degree from NIT Rourkela, ME degree from IISc Bangalore respectively, and PhD degree from USC-Columbia in Mechanical Engineering.
Dr. Sen made significant original contributions to research in micro/nanofluidics. He has published over 130 research articles in various prestigious international journals, was invited to contribute to 8 books/book chapters, filed 6 patents, and supervised 25 Ph.D./MS scholars.
He is the recipient of several prestigious awards and fellowships such as the Swarna Jayanti Fellowship 2017-18, Institute Research and Development Award (IRDA) 2021, Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) Awards 2020, NASI-Scopus Young Scientist Award 2019, IIT Madras Young Faculty Recognition Award (YFRA) 2017 and Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) Young Engineer Award 2013, Institution of Engineers India (IEI) Young Engineer Award 2013, and the USC Outstanding Graduate Student Award, 2007.
He is currently an Associate Editor of the ASME Journal of Fluids Engineering and Editor of the Transactions of the Indian National Academy of Engineering.
He is a Life member of the Indian Society of Heat and Mass Transfer, Indian Society of Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power, and Indian Society of Smart Materials and Structures.
He is a Board Member of the Acoustofluidics Society and serves as an organizing committee member for various conferences related to Micro nanofluidics. He is the Conference Chair of the first Indian Conference on Micro nano fluidics (ICOM 2023).
