Dr. Ashis Kumar Sen is a Professor in the Dept. of Mechanical Eng at IIT Madras. He received his Ph.D. degree from USC-Columbia, and Post-Doc at the University of Southampton. He received his B-Tech and M-Tech from NIT Rourkela and IISc Bangalore respectively.
At IIT Madras he has established a Micro Nano Bio fluidics Laboratory to carry out cutting-edge research in the area. So far he has guided 18 Ph.D./MS scholars, published more than 120 articles in various prestigious international journals, and filed 6 patents. He has taught several mechanical engineering courses, offered new elective courses on “Microfluidics and Microsystems” and "Capillarity and Wetting Phenomena", and an NPTEL course on “Microfluidics”. He has been actively contributing to various academic and administrative duties at the department, institute, and national levels.
He is the recipient of the Swarna Jayanti Fellowship 2017-18, Institute Research and Development Award (IRDA)- Mid-Career Level 2021, Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) Awards (as a mentor) 2020, NASI-Scopus Young Scientist Award (as a finalist) 2019, IIT Madras Young Faculty Recognition Award (YFRA) 2017 and Institute Research and Development Award (IRDA)- Early Career Level 2017, Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) Young Engineer Award, 2013, Institution of Engineers India (IEI) Young Engineer Award, 2013, DAAD Fellowship, 2012 and the USC Outstanding Graduate Student Award, 2007.
He is currently an Associate Editor of the ASME Journal of Fluids Engineering and Editor of the Transactions of the Indian National Academy of Engineering journals.
He is a Life member of the Indian Society of Heat and Mass Transfer, Indian Society of Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power, and Indian Society of Smart Materials and Structures.
His research interests are on Micro Nano fluidics and Lab on Chip.
